How to Win Free DQ for a Year: Golden Blizzard Buddy Explained

Finding a rare golden Goldie plushie gives you the chance to win free DQ for a year, subject to DQ’s official contest rules. Goldie is the chase figure in DQ Canada’s Mystery Blizzard Buddies collection: five plushie keychains sold in sealed blind packaging for $6 CAD as an add-on to any purchase, with rare golden versions hidden in select packages across Canada. Here is how the prize works, who can enter and what to do if you unwrap a golden one.

How the Golden Goldie Prize Works

The mechanic is simple. Buy a Mystery Blizzard Buddy, open the sealed package and hope for gold. Most packages contain one of the four regular characters: Flip, Blizabeth, Blenda or Brrrnie. A small number contain the rare golden Goldie. If you find one, you become eligible for the grand prize: free DQ for a year.

DQ Canada’s official announcement describes it as a “chance to win” rather than an automatic prize, which means finding Goldie enters you into the contest for the year’s supply rather than handing it to you on the spot. Read the official contest rules carefully before you claim, because the claim process, deadlines and prize format are all defined there.

Contest Rules and Eligibility

Because this is a contest, it comes with standard sweepstakes conditions. Based on the official rules summary published with the launch, the key conditions include:

• Age: you must be 18 or older to enter the sweepstakes.
• Rewards membership: you must be a DQ Rewards member. Membership is free through the DQ App.
• Residency: you must be a legal resident of Canada. Note that Quebec is excluded from the sweepstakes, which is common for national contests because of the province’s separate contest regulations.
• No purchase necessary: the official rules include a free method of entry, so you do not have to buy a Blizzard Buddy to enter.
• Deadline: the sweepstakes ends October 31, so claims and entries must be completed before then.

These conditions come from the published summary of the official rules. Always confirm the current terms in the official rules themselves, since contest details can be updated during the promotion.

What “Free DQ for a Year” Actually Means

DQ has not published the exact prize format for Canada in its main announcement, saying only “free DQ for a year.” In similar DQ promotions, year-long prizes have been awarded as DQ gift cards, which function as store credit you can spend on whatever you like. Gift cards would let you spread the prize across Blizzards, meals and treats through the year rather than receiving a fixed weekly item.

Do not confuse this contest with the Spellbound Secret Lair game in the DQ App. That is a separate promotion with its own prizes (gift cards, bonus points and other rewards). The golden Goldie contest is tied specifically to the physical plushie: no Goldie, no entry.

What to Do If You Find a Golden Goldie

First, do not throw away the packaging. Contest claims usually require proof of the winning item, and the package may carry codes or instructions. Second, read the official contest rules the same day, and note the claim deadline. Sweepstakes claims often have short windows, and missing the deadline forfeits the prize.

Third, make sure your DQ Rewards account is active and that your contact details are current, since winners are typically notified through their account. Fourth, be cautious about announcing your win publicly before the claim is confirmed. Sharing photos of a golden plushie is fun, but complete the official claim process first. And if you are buying Buddies specifically to hunt for Goldie, set a budget and check DQ coupons first: the odds are long by design, and the regular characters are cute consolation prizes.

Whether or not you chase the golden prize, the Buddies pair well with a visit for the Spellbound Series menu. Check current DQ deals before you go to make the trip worthwhile.
